QED

if

The quantity of blogging a writer does = b
and the amount of MMORPG gaming that same writer does = m

Then the following axiom is true:

b = 1/m

In other words, the amount of blogging performed by a given writer is inversely proportional to the amount of gaming engaged in by said writer.

This assumes that b + m = i, where i is constant and represents time on the interwebs. Thus, if we change i to be variable, provided that b or m do not surpass to half of its maximum, which would be, in a given day, 24 - s, where s equals sleep needed in order to sustain life, b = 1/m is not true.

e.g., if you must sleep for 8 hours, you have 16 hours of the day with which to live in teh interwebs. As long as you do not surpass 8 hours on either, your equation is not true.

However, I have left out a few other variables which must remain constant for this equation to work. Equation i = 24 - s is actually:

i = 24 - s - w - f * q

where w = work time needed to survive. Let us suppose, though, that w = c (cost of living) - h (inherited estate). Thus, my equation only works in which h > c and w is restricted to zero or greater.

also, where f = number of family members and q = quality time needed with a single family member. For my equation to work here as well, f will need to equal zero, and q is thus inconsequential.

thus the equation

i = 24 - s - w - f * q

becomes

i = 24 - s - 0 - 0*q

so

i = 24 - s

Because said person in this equation is rich through inheritence, he or she can afford to have food delivered and to use wireless internet, so as to stay on the interwebs while using the bathroom. They may also not bathe.

as long as b or m neither exceed 1/2(24-s), which assumes that you may be doing other interwebs work, your equation does not work in this complicated mathematical situation.

Can you tell that I'm avoiding reading some homework?

Michael,

You're in the deepest, darkest depths of thesis avoidance, aren't you?

Your response presupposes that said writer/gamer has other things he wants to do other than blog and game. For most MMORPGers that I've met, gaming is all they want to do.

Thanks for the belly laugh.

I think my nerd-o-meter just went off the charts ;-)
